Dallas Cowboys backup quarterback Cooper Rush surprised one of his biggest fans, 8 year old Gavin Miller, with tickets to the preseason match-up against in-state rival the Houston Texans this past weekend, a game often dubbed “The Battle of Texas”.
“Everyone needs perspective in life and he gives me a lot of it, so it’s been really good, someone you just always have in the back of your mind you think about when things are tough. Gavin’s been tougher than all of us.”
Gavin suffers from a very rare disease known as Perthes Disease which affects the hip joint and can lead to complications with walking and even arthritis. Every year Gavin and his mom fly down to Scottish Rite hospital in Dallas for treatment, but this years trip came with a surprise special treat.
It turns out both Gavin and Cooper Rush are from Charlotte, Michigan. When asked about his hometown neighbor Cooper Rush said this about the boy “Everyone needs perspective in life and he gives me a lot of it, so it’s been really good, someone you just always have in the back of your mind you think about when things are tough. Gavin’s been tougher than all of us.”
The Dallas Cowboys won the game against the Houston Texans with a resounding 34-0 score, the team was led for most of the game by Cooper and Gavin was in the stands cheering the whole time.
