Alma Cafe and Bakehouse has officially opened in a charming old residence in Irving’s Heritage District, offering a welcoming and cozy coffee-and-pastry destination. The concept grew out of pop-up events during reconstruction, which helped the team refine its offerings and build a strong local following before settling into a permanent space.
The café is rooted in a family effort. Founder Marla Ojeda turned a growing interest in coffee into a full-scale business, while her mother manages the pastry baking program, bringing homemade quality and creativity to the menu.
On the beverage side, the menu goes beyond the basics. Espresso drinks are mixed with flavors like brown sugar and condensed milk, alongside a range of matcha options and the Spanish latte, which features espresso, milk, condensed milk, and vanilla. The pastry case is just as compelling, stocked with fresh-baked items like croissants, cupcakes, cakes, and scones that have quickly become customer favorites.

Rather than a typical café layout, the shop’s space retains much of its residential character, with bright interiors, curated décor, and outdoor seating that encourages guests to linger. There’s also a focus on creating a social environment filled with conversation and community.
Positioned in one of Irving’s more historic areas, the café offers a locally driven alternative in an area often dominated by national brands. The café’s draw reflects broader demand for independent, high-quality coffee shops.
