Before landing in Texas, Chef Peter Liang developed his culinary abilities in New York City. His first venture in Texas was Ginza French Japanese Cuisine in Weatherford, which he no longer owns. On to bigger and better things, the chef recently unveiled Megu French Japanese Cuisine, a new restaurant close to Texas Christian University at 3113 S. University Drive.
Megu sits on the University’s lower floor of the Campus Office Tower. The signs are up, but the website is still being developed, so this place is still a secret, yet to be discovered.
The restaurant is run by Liang and Crystal Richey, a seasoned service industry employee who helps manage the restaurant. Liang and Richey direct customers through the extensive menu, which includes Japanese noodle and rice dishes and a wide variety of superbly presented and innovative sushi and sashimi dishes. Fresh fish is flown in and delivered to the restaurant daily.
Customers can try many Japanese specialty rolls and sushi. One unique sushi offering is the Spring in Paris roll, which is wrapped in rice paper and stuffed with salmon, tuna, and king crab. Crispy fried jalapeño strips are atop a mixture of spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and fresh mango that create the Cracker roll. The specialty rolls are priced from $18 to $25 apiece.
Guests can order sushi and sashimi a la carte, including white tuna, octopus, and tuna belly. Don’t miss the sushi tours like the USS Blue Ridge, USS Nimitz, and USS Gerald R. Ford, inspired by American aircraft carriers. They cost between $160 to $270 and feed three to six people, setting up an opulent spread for the entire table.
Customers can also find delicious French staples like a rack of lamb with a leek and potato tart, steak au poivre, pan-seared ostrich, Chilean sea bass, and French onion soup.
Throughout the meal, Liang engages in casual conversation with his guests, resulting in a highly engaging and unforgettable dining experience.
