Geotagged data from over 200,000 tweets posted during the COVID-19 pandemic appears to suggest that Texans are drinking the most booze out of all the U.S. states. This shouldn’t be a huge surprise since of course we’re now allowed to simply order our tacos and margaritas for curbside pickup from any of our favorite places.

This isn’t exactly a scientific measurement of how much booze each state is drinking and there’s all kinds of factors that could play into the data being wrong, like more Texans using Twitter than other states, or the fact that we have a larger population than most other states, or of course the fact that we just enjoy a good marg, mimosa, or solid Texas beer after a day of hard work.

But, it does sound about right and matches up with what we can see on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat.

The top 10 list of states getting their drink on during the pandemic is:

  1. Texas
  2. California
  3. New Mexico
  4. Hawaii
  5. Arizona
  6. Nevada
  7. Louisiana
  8. Mississippi
  9. Idaho
  10. Georgia
