The Flying Carpet has made its triumphant return to Fort Worth. This beloved Turkish café on the Near Southside joins the busy and exciting Fort Worth dining scene. Now under the culinary mastery of Chef Can Karatas—renowned for his Istanbul Cuisine restaurants in Southlake and Flower Mound—the Flying Carpet is ready to fire up its stovetops, welcoming guests once more at its beautifully restored early-20th-century cottage at 1223 Washington Ave.
Flying Carpet became beloved for its nourishing and delightful Turkish meals, vibrant tea selection, and beautifully adorned interior. Many locals have nostalgic ties to the café, especially for its baklava, Turkish coffee, and flavorful mezze platters that showcase traditional Turkish flavors with a creative twist.
Chef Can Karatas, a celebrated figure in the Dallas-Fort Worth culinary scene, brings an innovative spin to the menu. Karatas is respected for blending authentic Turkish recipes with innovative presentation and flavor. With him at the forefront of the restaurant, diners can expect an impressive lineup of freshly prepared dishes that capture the heart and soul of Turkish cuisine.
Guests can find handmade specialties and the restaurant’s famous hot and cold appetizers and regional desserts, like Kunefe with two layers of crispy phyllo stuffed with sweet cheese. Try the babaganush, falafel, Iskeder kebabs, moussaka, kibbeh, kafta, gyro, shish-chicken, and more.
The restaurant is open from 11 am to 9 pm daily, serving lunch from 11 am to 2 pm. The inside seating accommodates around 80, while the pet-friendly porch and backyard accommodate around 60 customers. And remember to BYOB, for now.
