The corner of East Northwest Highway and Plano Road has been home to several sports bars. Now, a new concept called Charlie’s Tavern & Kitchen is hoping to bring back what made them true neighborhood pubs in the first place.
Charlie’s Tavern & Kitchen opened in Lake Highlands, offering a comfortable gathering place where locals can grab a juicy burger, watch a game, enjoy live music, or unwind with friends. The new restaurant marks the second location for owner Justin Newton, whose first Charlie’s debuted in Arlington earlier this year. The bar’s name is a special tribute to Newton’s 11-year-old canary-winged conure bird.
Newton built Charlie’s with the aim of creating a neighborhood pub where regulars become friends. The tavern serves elevated bar food in a pub environment.
The menu offers traditional pub fare, including burgers, wings, sandwiches, pizzas, tacos, hearty pastas, chicken tenders, and shareable appetizers, with most entrees priced between $12 and $20. Weekend brunch adds another reason to visit, featuring favorites like chicken and waffles, breakfast tacos, omelets, avocado toast, and steak and eggs.
Behind the bar, Charlie’s offers 20 beers on tap alongside an extensive collection of bourbon, whiskey, tequila, and gin. Classic cocktails and signature martinis will be on the menu, too.
Sports remain a big part of the experience. The nearly 5,000-square-foot venue features 22 televisions, including two massive screens, making it an easy choice for game day while maintaining the relaxed atmosphere of a neighborhood pub.
