On Good Friday, this elderly Texas couple had an extra reason to celebrate the holiday – this was the day they both officially beat COVID-19 and went back home together.
āWith the help of the doctors and God, we are here,ā – Maria
Texan couple Maria Zamora, 69 and Jose Tapia, 70 were first admitted into the Dell Seton Medical Center 8 days earlier. The doctor who oversaw the couple, Dr. Stewart Schafer, said that when they were first admitted, they had “really low oxygen and pneumonia.” The couple was isolated into separate rooms during their time being treated. Now, Maria and Jose are Dell Seton Medical Center’s first patients with COVID-19 to achieve enough recovery to be sent home.
āTheyāre heroes, all of them are heroes,ā – Jose about the doctors, nurses and hospital staff
The couple’s happy moment came when they were finally being rolled out of the hospital as it was their first time seeing each other since being admitted. In a Twitter video shared by @JBontkeCBS, you can see doctors, nurses, and hospital staff cheer the couple on as they made their final trip through the hospital hallways.
