If celebrating Halloween for just one night isn’t enough, Denton will be plenty spooky all month long. The North Texas city is transforming into one massive Halloween destination this October, with more than 400 free and low-cost events scheduled from October 1, 2026, through November 1, 2026.
Denton is going all out this Halloween. The city, officially designated the Halloween Capital of Texas, will fill downtown with Halloween decorations, live performances, markets, movies, haunted attractions, art installations, and other fun events. The Halloween takeover officially begins October 1 with the Blocktober Party and Pumpkin Drop at Quakertown Civic Center. At this evening event, pumpkins stuffed with food get hoisted high into the air and dropped to the ground. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the kickoff includes food trucks, bounce houses, lawn games, and a touch-a-truck experience.
Among the 2026 highlights is Ghastly Gardens, a fog-filled haunted forest featuring mysterious plant life created by local artists. The Big Top Tent also hosts strange, funny, and macabre performances throughout October.
Visitors can also explore Halloween-themed art installations scattered around town, stroll through Jack-O-Lantern Way on Hickory Street, and participate in the Skelly Hunt while exploring Denton’s spooky sights.
A dedicated Halloween headquarters at 111 W. Hickory Street offers official merchandise, information on daily activities, and Halloween creations from local artists. Browse the open-air Halloween Town Market in Quakertown Park and walk under thousands of pumpkins hanging along Jack-O-Lantern Way on Hickory Street.

One of the wildest events arrives October 24, 2026, when The Denton Day of the Dead Festival takes over downtown with live music, mariachi and Ballet Folklórico performances, food, vendors, art, a community ofrenda and the Twilight Lantern Parade. There are Coffin Races, where teams race handcrafted coffins on wheels through downtown Denton while spectators line the streets. The races are scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. around Hickory, Oak, and Industrial streets.
Another cool event takes place on October 17, 2026, when Hallo-Wing takes over Denton Enterprise Airport with a fun trick-or-treating experience in North Texas. Kids can collect candy from an aircraft while meeting pilots and aviation professionals. The event also features games, bounce houses, food trucks, and an outdoor Halloween movie after sunset.
Other October events around the city include outdoor screenings of The Addams Family, Goosebumps, The Haunted Mansion, Monster House and Poltergeist, along with Halloween carnivals, glow pickleball, and plenty more.
The month-long Halloween celebration idea began in 2024 and attracted more than 600,000 visitors in its first year. Attendance reportedly climbed past 800,000 visitors in 2025, with people arriving from all 50 states and beyond. Denton has now been officially designated the Halloween Capital of Texas through 2035.
