New Soup Dumpling Restaurant to Open in Houston’s Midtown Area in Early October

Houstonians can soon visit the much-anticipated soup dumpling restaurant called Dough Zone Dumpling House. The first Houston location will open in Midtown on Louisiana Street on October 2, 2023.

Jason and Nancy Zhai founded the soup dumpling concept in Bellevue, Washington, in 2014. Dough Zone serves Chinese comfort food, including dumplings, noodles, vegetable dishes, and traditional Chinese dishes. The couple now operate 16 locations in Washington, Oregon, and California.

Dough Zone selected the former Ibiza space (2450 Louisiana St.) in Midtown for its first Texas location. Two additional confirmed locations are in the plans: one in the BLVD Place development near Houston’s Galleria (1700 Post Oak Ste 250), which is scheduled to open in January 2024, and one in Sugar Land (2715 Town Center Blvd N) that will open April 2024. The restaurant plans to look at other Texas cities, but specific locations have yet to be selected.

Houston was selected as the first location in Texas because the area aligns with the restaurant’s mission for diversity, a strong interest in Chinese cuisine, and catering to a targeted demographic.

Dough Zone’s menu contains over 50 items made with dough or batter. Sticking to tradition, soup dumplings incorporate a delectable blend of seasoned poultry, succulent Berkshire-Duroc pork, and the freshest crab meat. Upon steaming, this batch transforms into a rich and savory broth, encapsulating the essence of each ingredient within the traditional dumpling. You can also find house specials, vegetables, soups, pan-fried buns, and a variety of noodle dishes, such as Dan Dan Noodles and hot and sour glass noodles made with sweet potato flour, and beef stew noodles topped with braised brisket.

Dough Zone has flourished into a renowned West Coast chain since its humble origins as a mom-and-pop establishment. The chain boasts an unwavering commitment to delivering an exceptional dining experience that combines tradition and innovation. Dough Zone’s success is evident in its expanding list of locations and its plans to open more across the United States soon.
