A new tenant now owns a long-standing Luby’s site in the Lakewood, East Dallas neighborhood. The restaurant is named Birdie’s Eastside, and it is set to open on December 13, 2023, as a bar and grill with a large outside area.

Jon Alexis, who owns TJ’s Seafood Market & Grill, Malibu Poke, Escondido Tex Mex, Ramble Room), is the proud owner of Birdie’s. He bought the more than two-acre site at 6221 E. Mockingbird Ln., which is next to Abrams.

The big attraction is the outdoor space, consisting of a 3,500-square-foot patio with oversized furniture designed for big groups, four live oak trees, and an open space for kids to play.

With cathedral ceilings, reclaimed wood beams, and quirky Texas art, the main dining area can accommodate 150 people in comfortable booths. There are two bars at the restaurant, including a second cocktail bar with a wider assortment of regional beers, whiskeys, and tequilas, as well as a private area with an adjacent patio, and an adjoining indoor and outdoor bar with backlit handcrafted Mexican tile.

The restaurant serves bar and grill food, as well as healthy options, like salmon and grains and Mediterranean shrimp, and snacks. Menu items to share include Birria Sliders with roast beef and cheese on Hawaiian rolls, tuna tacos, bacon deviled eggs, and queso and guacamole from Escondido Tex Mex.

Salads include fried chicken spinach salad, and the Mediterranean salad with artichoke hearts, olives, red onion, chickpea, cilantro hummus, tzatziki, and romaine.

Guests can also order sandwiches and wraps, such as the Smash Burger, Fried Chicken Sandwich, Chicken Salad Croissant, Tikka Fried Chicken Wrap, and a Vegetarian Mushroom Gyro.

Entrees include Brisket Tacos, Salmon with basmati rice, cucumber salad, and tzatziki, and a Fig & Prosciutto Flatbread.

The restaurant serves delicious cocktails, like the frozen espresso martini and a refreshing Sauvignon Blanc Slushie. Guests can find a wide selection of margaritas from Escondido Tex Mex, plus a new Rocks & Frozen Blood Orange. Additionally, there will be a menu of Spritzies, such as Aperol, Hugo Mint, and Sparkling Mezcal Paloma. Guests can even order yummy martinis, like a Pickle Martini or a Filthy Martini, featuring bacon-stuffed olives.

Reservations can be made on the restaurant’s website.
