Celebrating its 76th year, McDade, Texas, will host a street dance on Friday, July 12, 2024, followed by an all-day festival on Saturday, July 13, that includes the Sweatinā€™ Melons 5K, parade through historic downtown, classic cars car show, barbecue cook-off, washers and cornhole tournaments, bingo, live music featuring bands Sean Orr & The Texas Gold Band and Annie Rost & The Texas Wanderers, and more fun. The McDade Watermelon Festival is one of the most successful and longest running festivals in Texas.

This family-friendly community tradition promises to be fun for all ages. Furthermore, prior to the complimentary Melon Feast, you can devour watermelon slices in the Watermelon Eating Contest and the Seed Spitting Contest. There will also be a prize melon auction and a free melon feast at 5 p.m. on July 13. How about joining the riding mower rodeo?

The money raised from the festival each year continues to help the town’s local school and offer grants to teachers to help their classrooms and a variety of youth programs. Proceeds also help the community food bank, Elgin library, historical museum, and other local youth groups, including a scholarship fund for McDade students graduating High School.
