Ready to Shamrock the weekend away?
Shamrock, TX, a panhandle city east of Amarillo with a population just under 2,000, has a hold on Saint Patrick’s Day like no other. Beginning in 1937, bandmaster, Glenn Truax decided to popularize St. Patrick’s Day in the town with a huge celebration due to the extremely Irish city name. Since then, this celebration has been taking place each year. This jubilee takes place over three days and even includes a beard contest!
Starting on Friday, March 17th at 4:00 PM, partakers will gather at 100 E. Railroad Ave. Throughout the evening, you’ll be able to enjoy a banquet and witness the debut of Miss Irish Rose and end the night with the country club dance at 900 S. Wall Street.
Next, head back for Saturday where they’re kicking things off with an early start of 8:00 AM. The itinerary for the day includes:

- The 76th Annual St Patrick’s Parade and Bareface Jail
- The Legends Car Show
- Crowning of Miss Irish Rose

Finally on Sunday, end the weekend with a bike ride, pageant, and St. Patrick’s Craft Show.
This event Is sure to be the perfect family fun event for the weekend. With a history as rich as Shamrock’s, you’ll not only be able to partake in contests and parades, but you’ll learn about how the city overcame the Great Depression and came to be what it is today.
