A brand-new sushi restaurant from California called Sushi Roku rolled into downtown Austin on February 16, 2024. It is the restaurant’s sixth location and first restaurant in Texas.
The new sushi restaurant resides in a glass tower, new to the Warehouse District, at 405 Colorado Street. Sushi Roku has several other California spots in Manhattan Beach, Santa Monica, Newport Beach, and Pasadena in California, and Las Vegas in Nevada. A Palo Alto, California, location is opening in spring of 2024.
Sushi Roku opened its doors in Hollywood in 1997, and it’s a recognized name to those who live in Los Angeles. The restaurant is an upscale establishment with a spectacular interior. The Austin restaurant is a one-of-a-kind spot with stunning and exclusive settings.
The restaurant is run by Chef Sang Kim, who mixes Western influences with international accents. Guests can find dishes like the “signature” Hanabi, baked crab rolls served warm, and truffle Brussels sprout chips. Those living in Austin will see a special on the menu called the Waterloo Ichi Roll with tuna, yellowtail, snow crab, mango, avocado, cucumber, kiaware (daikon radish sprouts), chili oil, sriracha, and spring greens.

There are 16 rolls and 18 sashimi options on the menu. Guests who like to sample should order the sushi plate or the seven-piece daily selection and custom hand roll.
For those who love adventure, try the specialty drink option, which features a variety of tropical ingredients like coconut, pomegranate, and yuzu. An old-fashioned gets a unique makeover when espresso-washed Whistle Pig is combined with angostura bitters, honey, ginger, cucumber, fresh serrano, and mint. Made with cucumber, kiwi, yuzu, and Don Londres Blanco tequila, the Shoman Glory is also only available in Austin.
There is also an extensive collection of sake, Japanese beer, and whiskey.
