Fort Worth’s food scene will gain a new soul food concept called Johnny’s Chicken & Waffles, bringing crave-worthy, comfort food to 2707 Race St. #117. The official grand opening is July 22.
Created by reality TV star Crystal Smith with her ex-husband and R&B artist Ne-Yo, and Karlie Redd of Love & Hip Hop fame, Johnny’s first began in the Atlanta area in 2020. After a successful Dallas debut in 2024, Fort Worth became the next city to plant a new restaurant.
Johnny’s puts a modern spin on the popular dish made with crispy and juicy fried chicken paired with fluffy and golden waffles. Guests choose their protein from whole wings, buttermilk chicken tenders, two-piece fried chicken, four-piece fried chicken, or buffalo wings. Choose from waffles like buttermilk, red velvet, pecan, strawberry, strawberry shortcake, and oreo.
Try menu items like the fried shrimp basket or catfish and grits. How about the Mac Attack with crispy chicken tenders, creamy mac & cheese, bacon, BBQ, and a buttered-brioche bun? There’s also pan roasted salmon and Cajun penne pasta.
Guests can also sip on signature drinks designed to share and served in carafes. Individual beverages are served in mason jars. Specialty cocktails include the Mimosa, brunch punch, margarita, espresso martini, and much more.

Platinum albums from famous locally bred musicians grace the walls of the restaurants. Ranging from R&B, Rap and Hip Hop, the collection highlights names like OutKast, Ne-Yo, Ludacris, Usher and more. Impressive original pieces of artwork, a mural of Harlem-based Apollo Theater and Insta-worthy neon signage that reads “Everyday I’m Wafflin” contribute to the music scene-influenced atmosphere of Johnny’s Chicken & Waffles.
