Nickel City in Austin has converted into ‘The Simpson’s’ Moe’s Tavern until the end of October, showcasing The Simpsons-themed activities and a special appearance from one of the sitcom’s showrunners.

Since 2018, East Austin bar, 1133 E. 11th Street, has transformed into Moe’s Tavern, featuring nostalgic decor, themed cocktails, and Krusty Burgers. Owner Travis Tober sought to expand the annual event after collaborating with Nixta Taqueria on a Bumblebee Man menu last year. Several local businesses are also working on one-off events held at Nickel City.

On Thursday, October 17 at 7 p.m., pizza truck Side Eye Pie will transform into upscale Springfield restaurant Luigi’s, featuring owner Tony Curet as chef Luigi Risotto.

TX Emo Club will also be at Nickel City on Thursday, October 17, from 10 p.m.-2 a.m., featuring legendary sitcom lyrics and a Bart vs. Australia cocktail pregame.

Former Simpsons showrunner Bill Oakley will be at the bar for a two-day event on October 22 and 23, where he will discuss iconic episodes that he was responsible for at this fun meet-and-greet.

Other Simpsons pop-ups include a Springfield Mafia pizza party from El Pizza from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, and a Frying Dutchman martini and oyster’s pop-up on October 22, from seafood company Austin Oyster Co.

Saine Wong from the Toshokan omakase will create a paired tasting service on October 21 and 28.

During October, guests will find a cocktail menu inspired by The Simpsons, including a selection of “Prank Calls” drinks and iced Squishees. Delrey Cafe, Nickel City’s resident food truck, will cook some favorites like Sideshow Bob-Dogs, Patty and Selma Melts, and Apu’s Mini Chopped Cheeses.
