A new study from personal finance site NetCredit reinforces that everything really is bigger in the Lone Star State, especially the burgers.

Researchers from NetCredit ordered cheeseburgers from 14 major fast-food chains across the country, weighing each patty on kitchen scales to compare both size and value. The results show that Whataburger’s signature Whataburger boasts the heftiest beef patty of the bunch, tipping the scales at 3.56 ounces. That’s more than three times heavier than the smallest burger in the study.

McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, and Five Guys are among the chains whose fry portion sizes, value per ounce, and protein density are compared in the broader study.

The result seems especially relevant in Texas, where Whataburger maintains its headquarters in San Antonio and operates 776 locations, or about two-thirds of its total U.S. presence. Significantly, Texans are not only the chain’s strongest supporters, but they also have easy accessibility to the biggest regular fast-food burger patty available.

The Texas-based chain, which has built a loyal following since opening in Corpus Christi in 1950, stood out not only for portion size but also for delivering solid value. While the study primarily focused on price and weight, Whataburger’s combination of size and cost per ounce placed it among the most generous options for burger lovers.

Although other national chains ranked well for affordability or consistency, none could match Whataburger’s signature Texas-style generosity. For fans of the orange-and-white icon, the findings simply confirm what they experience firsthand: when it comes to burgers, Whataburger doesn’t skimp.
