Berlin-Based German Doner Kebab Opens in Frisco, Texas

Doner kebab fans, get excited! The world-renowned kebab chain German Doner Kebab recently opened in Frisco at 12025 E. University Drive. The Berlin-based doner kebab restaurant has grown globally from the U.K., UAE, Sweden, Canada, and the U.S., and now Frisco, Texas, the most prominent North American spot.

What is a doner kebab?

Turkish döner kebabs, similar to the Greek gyro or the Arab shawarma, are made with seasoned meat shaved from a vertical rotisserie, a way of cooking that dates back to the Ottomans. Turkish spices and a yogurt marinade create the wonderful flavor of doner meat. This kebab is made from lamb, beef (or a combination of the two), or chicken.

The seasoned meat slices are cooked on a long skewer shaped like an inverted cone, which is slowly turned on a rotisserie and cooked. When the meat is done, the cook carves thin slices. The meat shavings are served in sandwiches or wraps. The meat can also be served as a doner plate with rice, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, red cabbage, pickles, chili sauce, or yogurt dressings.

Back in Frisco, the donner kebabs (German locals call GDK) are the hottest item on the menu. The chain infuses each premium cut with a secret blend of 20 herbs and spices. The meat is slow grilled to keep it lean and tender. The meat is freshly cut to order every day.

You will be in kebab heaven. Choose the original doner kebab, the lighter calorie doner kebab, or a doner kebab in a flatbread wrap. You can also get a veggie kebab, and a Doner Krunch Burger made with Doritos® chips and cheese sauce. You can order Boss Boxes with sides, a dipping sauce, and a drink.
