A championship-level barbecue spot will open in Fredericksburg on June 6 in the historic Brockmann-Kiehne House on the Albert Hotel grounds. Hospitality management group New Waterloo Hospitality and the Albert Hotel are behind the culinary concept called Junebug’s BBQ.
Junebug’s is a backyard BBQ joint celebrating food and community that serves award-winning recipes and housemade sides. The menu at Junebug’s is led by acclaimed pitmaster Justin Spencer, who also happens to be New Waterloo’s Head of Food & Beverage, a competition barbecue pitmaster, and the namesake Junebug himself. Bug and his team, dubbed the ‘Ribdiculous Bar-B-Krewe,’ hold bragging rights as the 2023 Memphis in May World Champions for the best barbecue. Their years of BBQ experience paid off.
Junebug’s will serve Texas-style brisket while honoring Fredericksburg’s German roots and celebrating Texas barbecue traditions. It will feature Texas-style eats, including all the usual barbecue staples. Brisket, pork ribs, and house-made sausages smoked over local oak, in addition to their signature mac and cheese, green beans, potato salad, and more.

Guests can also enjoy a selection of local craft beers, Texas wines, and cocktails designed to pair with the food offerings. Beverages will include Hill Country craft beers, Texas wines, and cocktails.
The 155-year-old Brockmann-Kiehne House has transformed into a warm, communal setting, with relaxed outdoor seating available for year-round dining. In 1870, the Brockmann-Kiehne house was built in Fredericksburg, Texas, with two parlor rooms, kitchen, cellar, ancillary well house and water tank separated by a durch-gang-breezeway.
