The sizzling spot where Chido Taco Lounge once dished out tacos and tequila is getting a chic new tenant. Say hello to Ella, a neighborhood restaurant that is opening its doors on Tuesday, June 17, at 7949 Walnut Hill Lane in Preston Hollow Village.
The restaurant was created by local restaurateur Blaine McGowan, the same talent behind Chido Taco. Ella promises to be an intimate, upscale experience centered around modern American comfort food in a welcoming and modern setting.
McGowan has teamed up with one of Dallas’ culinary heavy hitters. Executive Chef Kyle Farr, formerly of Michelin-recognized Sachet and the much-missed Boulevardier in Bishop Arts. With Farr at the helm, Ella is positioned to be more than your average neighborhood bistro.
Ella’s menu will delight even the pickiest of tastes. Dishes like shrimp and masa dumplings stew in a roasted pepper and tomato broth, topped with smoky charred broccolini. A refined tenderloin steak tartare is paired with cured egg yolk, warm bread, and a punch of Dijon. Don’t be afraid to try the pork cheeks, which are braised to perfection in orange jus and plated with roasted carrots and sunchokes.
For menu classics, try the rich and savory bolognese, or dive into a slow-braised short rib served in a silky red wine reduction. Seafood fans will enjoy the salmon entree, served over roasted beet purée with chickpeas, parsnips, and carrots.
Customers will enjoy irresistible cocktails, like the Chocolate Raspberries, a decadent mix of brandy and fruit or Poached Pear, an elegant blend of brandy, riesling, miso brown butter, and fresh pear. To cool down from the heat, opt for the Summer Daiquiri, a tropical twist featuring Mexican sugarcane spirit charanga, watermelon, and mint.
