New Ramen and Dumpling Restaurant Opens First Texas Location in Houston Heights

Afuri Ramen + Dumpling in Houston, which opened on November 1, is part of a renowned Japanese ramen chain known for its unique fusion of traditional ramen flavors and contemporary flair. Set in a modern yet cozy space on 1215 N Durham Drive, the newly opened restaurant offers a welcoming ambiance with warm lighting and a touch of Japanese-inspired design elements.

Afuri Ramen + Dumpling, originally founded in Japan, brings its signature ramen flavors and approach to Houston locals. The restaurant is known for its Yuzu Shio Ramen, a lighter, citrusy broth made with yuzu (a Japanese citrus fruit) that gives the ramen a unique tang. The ramen has light crisp flavors and the broth is packed with naturally derived umami and layered aromatic flavors from fresh high-quality ingredients.

Their ramen is celebrated for using quality ingredients, including spring water sourced from Mount Hood in Oregon (where their U.S. operations started). The ramen broth, developed from this pristine water, is prepared for hours to achieve an umami-rich flavor. The Houston menu often rotates with seasonal offerings, introducing new flavors and dishes to cater to local tastes.

In addition to their famous ramen, Afuri serves gyoza dumplings, sushi rolls, rice bowls, and other traditional Japanese appetizers, making it a go-to spot for a delicious and hearty Japanese food. Guests can try a dish like Tonkotsu Tantan, a spicy miso tare with tankotsu broth, pork crumbles, bok choy, shiitake mushrooms, and chili oil and much more.

For appetizers, the Japanese fried chicken (karaage) and fried pork dumplings (gyoza) make the perfect start to the meal. And don’t miss desserts like the Basque cheesecake – an absolute treat. It’s a creamy, rich dessert topped with whipped cream, tangy yuzu curd, and a crunch of candied hazelnuts.

Afuri Ramen will be open for lunch and dinner, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday.
