Feeling the summer heat and need some shade? Blue Bell just brought back a beloved flavor called Homemade in the Shade after a decade-long hiatus.
This delicious treat blends Blue Bell’s iconic Homemade Vanilla with ribbons of rich, chocolate fudge sauce. The ice cream flavor reflects the idea of an ice cream sundae and topping Homemade Vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce.
Along with its return, Homemade in the Shade boasts a fresh new look. The updated packaging features a sprawling oak tree, a reflection of the comforting shade the name suggests. Available now in both half gallon and pint sizes, this flavor is only around for a limited time.
Blue Bell also has brought back the refreshing flavor Orange Swirl, which is a combo of creamy vanilla ice cream and zesty orange sherbet. Orange Swirl comes in a pint and showcases a brand-new, sunshine-bright design to match its citrusy flair.

Both flavor revivals arrived just in time for National Ice Cream Month, which was first declared in 1984 by President Ronald Reagan, who clearly knew the power of a good scoop. National Ice Cream Day was on Sunday, July 20, 2025.
Blue Bell has been churning out fan-favorite ice cream since 1907 in Brenham, Texas. Even though it’s only sold in 24 states, it consistently ranks among the top ice cream brands in the country. With over 40 flavors and production facilities in Texas, Oklahoma, and Alabama, Blue Bell remains committed to quality and tradition—one creamy scoop at a time.
