San Antonio is the home to a fresh new spin on an everyday chore, thanks to Emily Strayer, the Grammy-winning multi-instrumentalist of The Chicks. Strayer is launching a brand-new concept called SOAP Laundry Lounge, a hybrid coffee bar and upscale laundromat set to open December 4, 2025.
Strayer, who grew up in Dallas, and her husband, fellow musician Martin Strayer, spend much of their time on the road. The couple purchased the San Antonio building as a long-term investment with the vision to create a neighborhood hangout where people could wash, sip, work, and unwind.
Inside the 5,500-square-foot lounge, guests will find 28 washers and 36 dryers, all equipped with the Aquawing Ozone Laundry System, a hospital-grade sanitizing technology that eliminates 99.9% of bacteria and viruses.
SOAP will offer both self-service laundry and a wash-and-fold option starting at just $4 per wash. Payments are made through a convenient card-based system, where customers can load funds using cash, credit card, or even EBT. The same card can also be used at the coffee bar, making the process seamless.
Speaking of coffee, the drink menu features espresso classics, teas, lemonades, pastries, and seasonal treats like a Mexican mocha and peppermint cold brew. With complimentary WiFi and a relaxed vibe, SOAP becomes a place where laundry day becomes something more enjoyable.
Strayer’s new venture aims to elevate a weekly chore into a community-centered experience. For San Antonians, laundry is about to get a whole lot more luxe.
